Olympic Trials: Twitter Edition Part Two

It's the gift that keeps on giving.  Four year fans.  Is there anything sweeter?

What is the plural of geniuses?  Genui?

Not to be outdone, "professional" media outlets have also taken a stab at horribly butchering their information.

Who knows what will happen in London?  The one thing we know to be true is that people will continue to share their vast wealth of gymnastics knowledge.

  1. In the newspaper, there was an article about day 1 of trials. They called her Kayla Ross, and talked about how Nastia fell "right before her dismount on bars." Oh yeah, sure.

    1. Haha - that actually would have been a good plan. Do the routine, accidentally on purpose fall right before the dismount, take a breather, then get back up and do a real dismount. Probably would have scored better...

  2. I don't know whether to yell or laugh while reading these. :D

  3. Hahahaha brilliant!! Feel bad for Kyla in the last one though . . . she deserves the recognition too!!

  4. But the olypians deserve proper recognition... as does Alexis Price and Mohoney--- is Mohini going to appear on the team, morphed with Maroney?

  5. I am laughing uncontrollably at this post. OMG thank you for sharing this!!!

  7. Wow..I think my favourite has to to be 'Nastia made one mistake at Trials and didn't make the team??'

  8. Made me burst out laughing in the airport, causing stares all around. Oh, dumb people.

  10. This is the best! I love how stupid people are. Your twitter posts (will not call them tweets-what a jacked up word that is) are hilarious too. Swimming Fuckery! That one had me on the floor dying of laughter as I was yelling at my TV to get the hell back to gymnastics.

  11. You've inspired me to look up some of the crazy things people say on twitter.

Three minutes ago, someone wrote "Found out Shawn Johnson retired. #4yearsofwaitingwasted" Apparently some people are still finding out. I'm often behind in goings on in the world, but various people who know nothing about gymnastics have mentioned it to me. Crazy . . .

    Thanks for sharing the laughs!

  12. Thanks for sharing these...words of wisdom! Haha! I think my favourites that I've seen are all the people who keep talking about Trials remind them of MIOBI. Or the person who tweeted the actress who played Lauren Tanner saying that Lauren Tanner = Alicia Sacramone.

  13. Oh dear, what is the world coming to? I quickly typed in "nastia liukin" and "shawn johnson" and I was left with mouth agape at the stupidity of some of these people. If you're Nastia Liukin's "biggest fan" then wouldn't you know that she's not competing floor? My personal favourite are the type where people seem to think the USA is doomed without its saviours Nastia and Shawn!

  14. Oh dear, what is the world coming to? I had a quick search on Twitter for posts including the keywords "Nastia Liukin" and "Shawn Johnson" and was left sitting with mout agape at the stupidity of some of these comments. You'd think if someone were Nastia's "biggest fan" then that person would actually know that she's not competing floor and vault!! My personal favourite is when people spout some drivel about the team being doomed because saviours Nastia and Shawn aren't there.

  15. Sorry about making two posts there. I thought my first one wasn't published. Stupid me.

  16. can't wait to see Jordan Weiber, Mykayla Morhoni, Alexander Raisman, Sarah Finnegan and Kennedy Baker at the Big O!!

  17. (ALICIA DIDN'T COST USA ANYTHING, THEY HAD NO CHANCE ANYWAY! DO WE HAVE TO SAY THOSE THINGS EVERY YEAR?)
Honestly, I wonder why those people who have no clue about gymnastics tweet about it.

    1. But the terrible trio continues to perpetuate this rumor - they say it so much I was beginning to wonder if I had made it up that we didn't have a chance anyway. I mean, I understand creating drama and telling a good story, but they should be able to do that without telling outright lies.

  18. These are hilarious!....and awful. Have these news outlets no shame? Apparently all black girls look alike, and the Filipino-American alternate is interchangeable with the Asian-American team member? Yeeeahhp. Okaaay. This is not difficult information to get correct. And no, "Mary Hussein Obama," Gabby Douglas is not the first black female to make the Olympics in gymnastics. Duh-Dominique Dawes? Tasha Schwikert? Hello?

  19. Four years from now they'll all be shrieking for Jordyn and Gabby, oblivious to the current crop of champions. Somebody, somewhere, is still wondering if Mary Lou made the team. People who only notice gymnastics every four years should not be permitted to voice opinions.

  20. I admit that I pay the most attention to gymnastics when Olympics time rolls around - which is why I assume that some of the girls will be unfamiliar to me! Sure I expect some of the younger members of the last Olympic team to be at trials ... but to think that our only chance at Olympic gold lies with the last team is nuts! There are tons of talented young women training every day for their shot - many of whom are as good or better than past champions. Ridiculous. There's always a new challenger in any sport!

  21. Between giggling madly and wanting to bang my head, I have to say a few things since I can't say them elsewhere...

Reading Liukin's "I have no regrets." speech just makes me realize how clueless she is. She was given a free ticket to trials and from what I saw, the preperation just wasn't there. People wanted her to pull out to spare her the embarrassment of being "That Girl"...the one who is a hot mess that we all watch waiting for her to nearly kill herself. Like someone else said, "she half shit this comeback". As a LONG time gymnastics viewer, it was the worst. ASac earned her Trials spot when she came prepared to Nationals; THAT is how you attempt a comeback. It hurt to watch her (ASac) not make it, but she didn't go out sniveling,

Some of NL's other comments also made me roll my eyes because she is soo wrapped up in herself to ever understand anything about other people...like the comment about the ovations. She didn't get one in Bejeng because they didn't give a shit about her; had it been LA or Atlanta, she'd have gotten one. That's how it works.

Why do I get the impression that she'll just go shopping and forget just how horrible people were to her? Other than expecting her to try everything possible to keep her 15 minutes going (since shallow, vapid people need the adoration), I hope to avoid seeing her as I try to enjoy my London 2012 gym footage.

    1. Gees, someone remind me to use spell check and re-read myself...that should be go shopping and forget how "horrible" everything is.

Writing with a migraine is not the best thing I could be doing.

  23. Oh dear...was browsing through Twitter and came across this.

If Nastia Liukin isn't in the 2012 summer olympics, how the fuck am I suppose to jerk off to new pics of her??

  24. I'm fairly certain Al Trautwig works for every single news outlet in the country and is writing this crap. I hate reading media reports of gymnastics, they fuck it up every single time. I read one article when Nastia was actually able to grasp the bars (so you know, 2008ish) that said Valeri won the gold in 88. WTF??? Do your research people, that one's pretty basic. GAH!!!! OK, I'm done here otherwise I will have a stroke.
